St. Joseph School is a Catholic Institution for boys. The school was founded by the Christian Brothers, a religious order whose founder, Saint John Baptist De La Salle , is the patron saint of teachers.
The brothers first came to Ethiopia 1953, with a mission of giving a solid foundation in Christian morality and producing academically strong students who would develop into good citizens with a love of God, sense of community and concern for their fellow man.
Ever since 1959 when it was founded, Saint Joseph has had a proud history of academic excellence, graduating many students who have gone on to successful careers in many professions throughout the world. For more than forty years, the school has been considered one of the top schools in the country, one most sought after for providing a superior education.
Today St. Joseph has 1400 students and 50 teachers. Its current headmaster is Ato Demisse Wolde Aregay who himself, had been a Christian Brother for twenty-one years. Previously, Ato Demisse had served as teacher and the first Ethiopian Headmaster of the Elementary and Secondary sections, respectively. Presently Ato Yonas Urbanos and Ato Kassa Zeleke are serving as Assistant Heads of the Elementary and Secondary sections, respectively.
